In 2001, as a response to frequent Emergency Room bed outages, Del Sol Medical Center expanded its Emergency Room capability. Del Sol Medical Center sees well over 60,000 patients in the ER. Of the 60,000 visits in 2006, 20,000 were pediatric patients. Del Sol Medical Center has Pediatric Nurses stationed in the Emergency Room to care for the needs of the Pediatric Patients. The Emergency Room at Del Sol Medical Center has been equipped with state-of-the-art technology to streamline the communication system in order to accommodate the high volume and to decrease wait time. The communication system also works with the other areas of the hospital to insure that if a patient needs to be admitted to the hospital, the transition is seamless from the ER to the nursing unit. Las Palmas and Del Sol each have Accredited Chest Pain Centers in the respective ERs.

Las Palmas Medical Center likewise completed a community needs study in 2002 that demonstrated that El Paso's the West Side needed to expand Emergency Services. In February of 2005, Las Palmas Medical Center opened the doors to a new Emergency Room. The new Emergency Room is now the largest Emergency Room in square footage in the City. Las Palmas is trending to see 32,000 patients in 2007. Dr. Randy Goldstein, the Director of Emergency Room Medicine at Las Palmas Medical Center, is dually boarded in both Pediatrics and Emergency Room Medicine.

Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare is projecting that 4500 babies will be delivered in El Paso in 2007. Of the babies delivered, 600 infants will be admitted to the two Neo-Natel units. The Neo-Natel units at Las Palmas and Del Sol are each level three units providing the highest standard of care for the most critical new born babies. The NICUs are both staffed with round the clock neonatology coverage with board certified Neo-Natologists and Nurse Practioners. Del Sol Medical center recently announced plans to expand the Neo-Natel Intensive Care Unit to help meet the needs of El Paso's growing Eastside population.
