

One in five Americans is at risk for developing Type II diabetes. On March 25th the American Diabetes Association observes the 20th annual American Diabetes Alert Day. This is a one-day “wake-up” call to inform the American public about the seriousness of diabetes. People who are overweight, live a sedentary lifestyle, and over the age of 45 should consider themselves at risk for the disease. People who have a family history of the disease are also at an increased risk for Type II diabetes.
Three Cups o’ Joe A Day Keep Diabetes At Bay

Facing the day with a cup (or two) of coffee is the American way. According to the National Coffee Association of the U.S.A., 80 percent of Americans drink coffee and more than half of the population drinks it everyday. Besides the typical positive effects associated with coffee such as wakefulness and increased motor activity, studies show that coffee also has one very significant health benefit. A study at the Harvard University School of Public Health shows that the risk for developing Type II diabetes is lower among regular coffee drinkers.
